Humiliation called: “Peace talks!”

Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama put the prestige of their offices, their personal images, and of the United States to the test, and failed! The failure of these two individuals was not a surprise, as smart as they both are, they have proven, once, and once again, that they are inept at conducting foreign policy for the United States. Not only was the early demise of the peace talks not a surprise, it was entirely predictable.

Benyamin Netanyahu was not authorized to continue the moratorium on building, more than was Abbas allowed to continue talks while Israel returned to building; pre-condition,s in spite of President Obama declaration that no such condition existed, do exist.

Abbas “blinked” momentarily when he did not stop the talks as soon as the moratorium ended, Netanyahu simply revealed the fact that his control of Israel’s coalition was too fragile for him to challenge…

Regardless of many proclamations by the international community, and led by the United States, pre-condition to an Israeli Palestinian peace do, and will remain, to exist. Forcing the Israeli and Palestinians to act as if such conditions do not exist is not only humiliating, its disgraceful.

It is important to realize that neither Abbas, nor Netanyahu, or anyone who will replace them in the future, will ever have either legal, or moral authority, to negotiate changes regarding a number of issue, such as:

Recognition by the Arab world that Israel as a viable “Jewish” State located in was once known as Palestine. Agreeing to that proposition, the Palestinians would have to essentially give up on “the right of return,” because such right will shift the population balance away from its present Jewish majority. The Israeli, on their part must have such recognition, or agree to forego a future as a sovereign state.

Changing the status of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital since it is to the Jews, and to the Jewish state, is the hub of their existence, the most important part of Judaism. The Western Wall and the footprint of the temple, are clearly the most important part of real estate in the Jewish world. Jerusalem is also important to Islam (third after Mecca, and Medina,) and to Christianity, but not quite at the level that it is to the Jewish people whose mortal leaders will not ever be in a position to negotiate its future.

And, to some lesser degree boundaries. The 1967 boundaries are not defensible to Israel, the future Golan Heights should be examined, and others borders must be adjusted to accommodate all affected parties.

Forcing peace talks to start in September, President Obama must have dreamed that by some miracle, he can find a way to keep the talks going through the November election, his Democrats could have something positive to bring to the voters. On the other side, if the GOP plays the Israeli/Palestinian card right, the humiliating peace talks will hurt the Democrats, while, of course, having a negative effect on the President.
